Words of Jesus Part 27
Some verses are skipped because they were covered in the study of the words of Jesus in Matthew.
Its a very dangerous thing to reject or ignore the gospel. It is God's gift to mankind. It is the only way of salvation and eternal life. To refuse this way out, is to be lost and apart from God forever in a place called hell.
Are we still preaching the same message? Are we still urging people to repent? Without repentance there will not be a change after someone comes to Christ. We are only preaching half the gospel if we tell someone to accept Christ but ignore the message of repentance. If they do not hear that they need to repent, they will not repent. We must tell them that all have sinned and all of us has broken the law of God. This makes us lost and without God. Sin separates us from God. Yes God loves us and did send His Son to save us but He also commands us to repent and turn to Jesus Christ. It is more than just repeating a sinner's prayer. It is a change in the inward part of man or woman. We must be "born again" by God's spirit. We must repent and be born again. We cannot just join a religious organization or a church. We cannot just be baptized in water. We must be born again by the spirit of God. It is something that happens when we repent and come to Christ.
Signs will follow those that truly believe. We are not to run after signs nor seek signs but they will follow all who truly seek God's indwelling Holy Spirit and then we walk in the Holy Spirit. The disciples were to heal the sick and cast out the devils along with the preaching of the gospel.
Here we see our Lord making sure His disciples took time from their journey to rest and refresh themselves both physically and spiritually. This shows us a great need after laboring for the Lord to come apart and rest. It may possibly be the reason some who work and build up great ministries might have so much responsibility that they fall into error. They may be neglecting to take time out to rest. In fact God actually made the Sabbath originally so that we can rest both spiritually and physically. Even if they are out preaching every day, they would soon weaken if they don't come apart and seek God to be renewed in the Spirit both physically and spiritually. Our bodies need rest and our spirit needs fresh anointing from God. A strong church is a praying church.
