Messiah, the Seed of the Woman
After Adam and Eve disobeyed God and
allowed sin to enter the world, God gave a prophecy which foretold
of the time when the seed of the woman would bruise the head of
Satan. In doing so, His heal would be bruised which happened at the
crucifixion. Christ's victory over Satan is permanent while the
afflictions on Jesus Christ was temporary.
Actually this is a double prophecy.
There is a natural enmity between serpents and men. There are people
who like working with animals and do not have this enmity but for
the most part, natural men and women do not like snakes. Their first
impulse is to kill a snake when they see one or to flee from the
snake. This impulse is traced back to the very first time mankind
came across the serpent that Satan used to communicate with our
ancestors. Moses also fled from a serpent when God was showing Him
how he was going to defeat Pharoah and free the slaves from Egypt.
The main point of this passage though
refers to something far greater. It refers to the time when God was
going to come into the flesh by the Spirit of God into the seed of
the woman in order to reconcile men and women back to
fellowship with Him after being lost when sin entered into the human
face. As soon as the fall has taken place, God was planning a way
to get us back to Him. That is why the Son of God had to come by way
of the flesh. Man caused the fall and sin to enter the world so man
had to be the one to bring everything back into God's control again. Jesus
our Christ became a man, the seed of the woman to pay the penalty for
our sins. In doing so, all who repent of sin and believe in
Him can be brought back into fellowship with God and inherit eternal
life.
Sin also brought death to mankind
because the wages or payment of sin is death. So the way was made
for Jesus Christ to come as a man and get victory over death and
usher in the promise of eternal life. When Jesus rose from the dead,
He defeated death and brought about the way for those who obey and
believe in Him to inherit eternal life thereby reversing the curse
which came at the fall at the garden of Eden.
Fulfillment of Genesis 3:15:
-
But when the fullness of the time
was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under
the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might
receive the adoption of sons. Galatians 4:4-5
