The  Messiah - Part 10

The Coming of the Messiah

  • Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
  • 25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
  • 26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
  • 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

In the prophecy of Daniel we see that the Messiah also called the Prince, is to come. Now we see clearly that something has to be done for the sin. God is not just going to send a deliverer without causing repentance and sin to be taken care of. Sin cannot enter to future Kingdom of God. It is to be an everlasting Kingdom with evil being destroyed and righteousness being forever present and in force. God had to make a plan or a way to get rid of sin before allowing anyone to enter His new kingdom. Notice verse 24. To make an end of sins. To make reconciliation for iniquity. Someone is to come to reconcile us back to God. Then everlasting righteousness will be brought in. The most holy is anointed. This does not happen all at once.

In the book of Nehemiah the command to restore Jerusalem is given. There are 69 weeks of years from the commandment to restore Jerusalem until the time of the Messiah. About 483 years. This is about the time of the birth of Jesus Christ. This Messiah is cut off or killed. The city and sanctuary are then destroyed. About 70 AD this prophecy was fulfilled. This took place in 70 AD. The Roman army completely destroyed Jerusalem and Israel was scattered all over the earth. They lost their nation and did not get it back until 1948. In 1948 started the end times which is preparing for the last week in Daniel to be fulfilled. Jesus said that no man knows the day and the hour but I believe that the present trouble in Jerusalem is a sure sign that the Second Coming of Jesus Christ is near.

Just before His Second Coming someone comes who makes a covenant with Israel and supposedly makes peace. There have been many forerunners to this man of sin. Antiochus Epiphanes is one of them who sacrificed a pig at the holy altar and went into the holy of holies. Perhaps Hitler, Stalin and others who persecuted the Jews are also forerunners of the antichrist. The coming antichrist though will first make peace with Israel but then turns on them with all the venom Satan can use against Israel. This will be the worst time in the history of the Jewish people.

During this last week of Daniel's prophecy many bible scholars say it is about 7 years divided into two 3 and 1/2 segments. The first 3 and 1/2 years will not be so bad but the second half will be one of terror greater than ever before.

Why does God allow this?

To show Israel that they rejected the Messiah. To bring Israel back to God and make reconciliation. To show Israel that they have sinned and need a savior. Israel will come to realize the the Messiah their forefathers rejected is indeed the very Christ Jesus that was crucified. However, Jesus had to be crucified in order to save not only the Jews but believers in every other nation in the world. We can't persecute the Jews for killing Christ because if that had not happened, there would be no salvation for anyone. Jesus came for that purpose. It was fulfilled and many have already received the glorious salvation plan that God made for us. However, many have not yet received and need to find the Messiah.

When things get so bad for Israel that they cry out to God, God will send the Messiah once again to save Israel and usher in the New Kingdom that will bring in righteousness and true peace. This will happen not by a man that is born in this day and age but someone who comes from heaven in power and might. Don't look for an earthly leader even if he does miracles and wonders.

As lightening comes from the east and shines to the west so shall the coming of the Lord be. We can't be fooled by an earthly leader who talks of peace and prosperity in order to gain followers after himself. Look for the return of Jesus Christ for peace and righteousness because there is no other one that will bring everlasting peace. At the same time we must not go to the opposite error and assume everyone that works for peace and prosperity is antichrist. Almost every good world leader does that.

Fulfillment of Prophecy of the time and place of the Messiah's birth:

  • Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
  • 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
  • 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
  • 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
  • 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
  • 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
  • 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

The Messiah was born at a certain time and place so that prophecy would be fulfilled. We see from Daniel that someone was coming to save us from sin. We see that this someone would be cut off for a season but it didn't stop there. The rest of Daniel's prophecy about anointing the most holy is still to come. When the Messiah was killed or cut off, that did not stop the prophecy from coming to pass. Jesus Christ was resurrected and is now at the right hand of God. He is not dead. He came the first time at an appointed time. He will come a second time at an appointed time. This time He will not be coming as a babe in a manger. He did that only once. This time He will come from Heaven with a might army of saints. Don't look for an earthly leader. No man can bring in everlasting peace except Jesus Christ.
